About the Author: Misha Sekhon

Hi! My name is Misha, and I’m a high schooler who discovered skiing at the age of 6. From the very first time I stepped onto the snow, I felt a sense of freedom and excitement unlike anything else. Skiing quickly became more than just a hobby—it became a passion that shaped how I approach challenges, set goals, and connect with others. The mountains have always felt like a place where anything is possible, and I wanted to share that feeling with as many people as I could.
Over the years, I’ve grown into not only a skier but also an adaptable ski instructor. Teaching skiing has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I’ve worked with athletes of all abilities, helping them navigate the slopes and gain confidence in their skills. Seeing someone overcome obstacles and experience the thrill of skiing for the first time is an unforgettable feeling, and it has reinforced my belief that no one should be limited by disabilities when it comes to enjoying the snow. Being an instructor has taught me patience, empathy, and creative problem-solving, and it constantly inspires me to find new ways to make skiing accessible for everyone.
At the same time, I’m also a high school ski racer. Racing has pushed me to develop discipline, resilience, and a love for pushing my own limits. Balancing racing, school, and teaching has taught me time management, focus, and how to thrive under pressure. The lessons I’ve learned from racing—perseverance, preparation, and embracing challenges—carry over directly into my work as an instructor and advocate for accessible skiing.
Positive Altitudes started as a dream to combine my love of skiing with my desire to make the sport inclusive. I wanted to create a space where people of all abilities could find inspiration, learn from experiences, and see that skiing is something everyone can enjoy. Whether it’s sharing stories of athletes who overcome obstacles, highlighting adaptive equipment, or simply celebrating the joy of being on the mountain, Positive Altitudes is dedicated to showing that skiing belongs to everyone.
Through this work, I hope to break down barriers and help people see that limitations don’t define what you can do. Skiing has given me so much—confidence, community, and the pure joy of movement—and I want to make sure others have the same opportunities. Every turn down a slope, every lesson taught, and every race run is a reminder that passion and determination can overcome challenges. I’m excited to continue this journey, share experiences, and inspire others to find their own freedom on the snow.
